About Us

TEACH'S HOLE

Teach’s Hole Blackbeard Exhibit and Pirate Specialty Shop were established on Ocracoke Island in 1992 by George and Mickey Roberson. Our original location was on the Back Road around the corner from Blackbeard’s Lodge. We were in that location for fourteen years. In 2005 we built a new building on Hwy 12 across from the Variety Store and have been in this location since 2006.

Our goal at Teach’s Hole is to educate the public in a fun and informative way about Edward Teach, one of history’s most notorious pirates. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, was captured and killed here at Ocracoke on November 22, 1718.

Teach’s Hole is a seasonal business open from April through Thanksgiving. Our website is open all year with only minor interruptions while attending gift shows. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, we are open Monday – Saturday. However, our hours and days of operation are less during the shoulder seasons. Call our automated phone attendant at 252-928-1718 and press one for current hours.

Mail orders are usually shipped through the Post Office within one to three business days. The tracking number is emailed once the package has been accepted by the Post Office. Please note that the mail may be delayed due to no ferry service to the island.

This shop is a one-stop source for all your “piratical paraphernalia” needs. The exhibit features a life-size recreation of Blackbeard, a weapons display, old bottles, original art, woodcuts of Blackbeard, pirate flag displays, a short documentary about Blackbeard’s life and death here at Ocracoke, scale models of Blackbeard’s ships, and new for 2023 a display of medical tools like those found on the Queen Anne’s revenge.

Store Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 1 pm – 5 pm.

We regret to announce that our beloved pirate-themed store has closed its doors. After years of sailing the high seas and providing our customers with unique pirate-inspired treasures, we have decided to shift our focus and venture into a new domain.

We are excited to announce the launch of our website, where we will share a variety of informative and engaging articles on a wide range of topics. As we embark on this new journey, we are committed to delivering the same level of passion and enthusiasm that defined our pirate store.

While we may have left the pirate life behind, we are thrilled to set sail on this new adventure, exploring uncharted waters and bringing fresh and captivating content to our loyal audience. Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for your continued support!
